Aussie men will have to find alternative ways to get endowed Down Under: Australian health officials are warning people to stop taking "Big Penis USA" pills after finding that the male enhancement medication contained an undeclared — and very popular — libido-booster.
"Big Penis USA tablets pose a serious risk to your health and should not be taken," the country's Therapeutic Goods Administration declared in a Thursday public service announcement on their site.
The public health watchdog had discovered that these pharmaceutical phallus fluffers secretly harbored sildenafil, the erectile dysfunction medication sold under the brand name Viagra.
According to the TGA, this oft-lampooned res-erection provider "may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels."
As such, it can cause "serious side effects" in people who are prescribed nitrates, which include those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.
The Aussie health organization declared that the "supply of Big Penis USA tablets containing undisclosed sildenafil is illegal."
They added that they’d "notify the ABF (Australian Border Force) to seize and destroy any of these products intercepted at the border."
Meanwhile, customers were urged to stop using the enlargement meds and to bring any remaining pills to the nearest pharmacy for disposal.
"If you have any concerns arising from your use of this product, consult your health care practitioner," they wrote.
Those suspecting they had an adverse reaction to the product were advised to report it to the TGA by calling the number 1800-020-653 or going to their website.
As Big Penis USA pills are sold online and not at Aussie stores, the org advised the public to be wary about buying medications from unknown overseas internet sites, News.com.au reported.
Interestingly, this advisory comes seven years after the US Federal Drug Administration issued a similar warning about the Big Penis USA pills for the same reason after IDing the product during an examination of international mail shipments.
In the warning, which they updated in 2019, the FDA wrote: "This notification is to inform the public of products marketed as dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden drug ingredients and chemicals.
"These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building and are often represented as being ‘all natural,'" they added. "FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any product in the above categories."
